Together through IMPACT, we are able to take on multiple problem areas together each year. Because not all solutions are achievable in one year, we remain committed until we reach our goal.
Our primary focuses are:
Affordable Housing: We want Albemarle County to dedicate at least $10MM a year to building new affordable housing, enough money to build nearly 300 new affordable homes every year. Find out more here.
Transit Wait Times: Wait times for a bus in Charlottesville too long! Those who rely on the bus to get to work and live their daily lives often wait over an hour for buses that may not even show up on time. In response to IMPACT’s requests in past year, Charlottesville’s City Manager has put together a plan that would bring wait times down to half an hour or less on all routes. We are excited to see the city respond in this year and are now seeking commitment from Charlottesville’s City Council to implement this plan.
Neighborhood Safety: During our 2025 listening process, we heard hundreds of stories from people who were worried about increased violence in our community. Since 2019, police reports show that there have been over 500 shootings in our community and nearly 200 people hospitalized. We are currently in the process of researching evidence based solutions to reduce violence in communities and will be presenting a proposed solution to our decision makers at the 2026 Nehemiah Action.
